Does The Diet Industry Want You to Fail?

As I’ve battled with my own weight issues over the years, (nothing extraordinary, just standard middle age battle of the bulge stuff). I’ve been untiringly studying about different weight loss and diet programs. I’ve tested or spoken personally with people that have tried a variety of weight loss pills and supplements. A product that has either satisfied me in the long-term or those whom I have talked with is yet to be found. As a result, I’m beginning to question myself as to whether these quick fix diet plans and pills work, or if it’s a problem that goes deeper than the diet pill itself? Is the fault ours or that of the diet industry?

Whether diet pills are indeed a viable option to lose weight or if they are just a big scam is something that I’ve researched into. Everybody has seen ‘Judy’s (or Jennifer’s or whomever’s) Weight Loss Blog’ with their insanely unbelievable before and after photos? Are they actual people or just a trick to hoodwink me to buy the products they’re pushing? 83% of dieters gain back more weight than they had previously lost after only 2 years is something I came across in one paper during the course of my research. Depressing, I know. This fact makes me believe that these so called “miracle” diets are just a temporary fix in the long run. Are these diet companies, who appear as if they’re trying to help us reach our goals, merely preying upon our ignorance, hopes and insecurities? In fact, maybe they never wanted us to succeed in the first place. Maybe they only want us to fail harder so that we’ll pay more and more money to get temporary results that never stick. Our wallet is the only thing that sheds pounds while we line the pockets of these diet companies.

Who doesn’t wish to have the body of a movie star, and that includes me too? Come on, don’t lie to yourself, you’ve wished for it too. To be frank, we’re never going to look like Demi Moore unless we pay to visit her plastic surgeon though diet pill companies make it seem otherwise. Movie stars also have chefs, teams of personal trainers, and hours of free time to workout and burn away the fat. Now, if the diet industry could squeeze all that into a pill, maybe they’d have something, but in today’s world, there’s no such thing as a magic pill. I’ve also got some shares in a Nigerian gold mine to sell you if there are such pills.

The fact is, we have to make major lifestyle changes to meet our weight loss goals. I know it is tough but I have to say it. We should understand the perception of dieting, controlling our craving to eat, comprehend why and finally, make effort to reach our goals. It is quite possible though it will take time and discipline and it won’t always be easy. I’ve been making the effort and have seen the results myself, so why shouldn’t you? Do not forget that slow and steady wins the race hence my weight loss has been slower than Jenny’s or Judy’s. So take some time everyday to formulate your plan and then act on it. Your effort should not be just to lose weight, but to enjoy a healthier longer life. Those having kids like me will know how especially important this is. Enjoying my grandchildren and being around for a long time is my plan (even though it might be quite a long time away).
